Why Leipzig
In the context of a multilevel selection process a total of 17 potential locations in Germany were evaluated. "Made in Germany" was considered a competitive advantage upon the broad world market, in September 1999, it was finally decided upon that Leipzig would become the new production center for Porsche. Financial contributions played no part in this decision. As opposed, Porsche had actually refused help in the form of state subsidies. Luxury and state subsidies do not mix, that is what the philosophy of Porsche states.
In all, Porsche invested approximately Euro 127,7 million Euro in the new Leipzig location. The complete investment volume for the third Porsche series amounted to more than 500 million Euro - including research, development and marketing.
Porsche Leipzig has created about 800 new jobs in total on the premises of the factory, 400 of which have been created directly by Porsche Leipzig and a further 400 of which have been created by service providers. The employees mainly come from the local region.
