Support for young people is a further focal point of the social commitment of Porsche in Leipzig. A prime example of this is the ““GaraGe”” training initiative – a technology centre for young people in the Plagwitz district of Leipzig. Every year more than 80,000 children and young people take advantage of the educational facilities at the “GaraGe”, which also include a Porsche technology workshop. Using a real 911 Turbo pupils receive their first experience of automobile technology under the instruction of a Porsche technician.
Explaining the project Stefan Althoff, Head of HR at Porsche Leipzig GmbH, states: “Our aim is to enable young people to experience technology for themselves, to help them develop a fascination for the automobile and to prepare them for their working lives”. In line with this aim professional training in writing job applications is also provided, giving participants more information about the three-and-a-half year apprenticeship with Porsche. “We use this as an opportunity to identify up-and-coming talent, and this has proved successful. Participants in the “GaraGe” courses are once more among the 20 apprentices we have recruited from the 2013/14 school year. These are our specialists of tomorrow, who will make a decisive contribution to the future of our production location in Saxony,” adds Stefan Althoff.
